
ABOUT EMG'S CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Portia Mazone is a visionary music executive, creative director, music supervisor, and legal strategist at the intersection of entertainment, culture, and business. She is the Creative Director and Owner of Econtii Music Group and the Director of Business and Legal Affairs at Encorporated Group, a music publishing company that provides administrative publishing and label services to artists. She leads contract negotiations, manages music licensing, and ensures legal and strategic compliance across the company's roster and catalog.

Portia holds a B.S. in Journalism and a Master’s in Applied Social Science from Florida A&M University. She also earned a Certificate in Music Recording from FAMU, a Certificate in Music Essentials from NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, and a Juris Master in Intellectual Property Law from Emory University School of Law. She is pursuing her Juris Doctor at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School, with an expected graduation in May 2027.

In 2009, Portia founded Econtii Music Group (formerly Econtii Entertainment) to empower entertainment professionals with the business tools and legal knowledge needed to thrive in music and media.
In 2015, she co-founded the Sports, Music, and Entertainment Summit (SMES). This nonprofit hosts educational panels, networking mixers, and workshops to help emerging creatives access opportunities in the entertainment industry.

Portia's music supervision credits began gaining national attention in 2018 when she served as Music Supervisor for Season 2 of the Emmy Award-winning series GIANTS, aired on Issa Rae's YouTube channel, Cleo TV, and BET+. Her work on the series earned her a Best Soundtrack nomination at the Indie Series Awards. She went on to supervise the critically acclaimed indie series Unapologetically Black. She is also the Music Supervisor for Season 2 of Chadd Black’s House of Influence – Atlanta, which will air on Apple TV.

In 2023, Portia was inducted into ForbesBLK, a Forbes initiative celebrating Black professionals and changemakers across industries.

In 2024, Portia was honored with the Renaissance Woman of the Year Award at the Black Hollywood Honors, recognizing her multidimensional impact across entertainment, law, and community empowerment.
Also, in 2024, she joined the Executive Board of Moms in Music. This global community advocates for equity and support for mothers and caregivers in the music industry. The organization promotes visibility, policy reform, and empowerment for women whose contributions are too often overlooked.

In 2025, Portia founded The Music Report, a digital media publication that delivers timely music business news, highlights independent and major artists, and provides quarterly curated playlists to music supervisors for sync placement—bridging the gap between creative talent and decision-makers in film, television, and advertising.

In 2025, Portia joined The State of the People POWER Tour, a nationwide call to action led by Angela Rye. The tour is a movement to rally, restore, and reimagine possibilities for Black communities, centering civic engagement, cultural expression, and community-led solutions. As a speaker and contributor to the tour, Portia brings her entertainment and advocacy background to inspire transformative dialogue and action.

Also, in 2025, Portia will release her debut book, The Art of Networking: How to Effectively Network in the Entertainment and Music Industry. The book offers a practical, empowering guide to building meaningful relationships, navigating gatekeepers, and creating authentic connections in competitive creative industries.

Portia frequently leads workshops and masterclasses nationwide, including her signature presentation: From Civil Rights to Racial Justice: Understanding African-American Social Justice Movements Through Music and the Role of Black Entertainers, a powerful exploration of music’s role in protest, liberation, and cultural change. She also facilitates her Artist Resource Workshop, providing musicians and creatives with essential tools for legal literacy, business strategy, and career growth.

A member of the Recording Academy, ASCAP, BMI, Women in Music, Moms in Music, and the National Association of Record Industry Professionals (NARIP), Portia continues to advise artists, producers, entrepreneurs, and brands—while championing equity and excellence across every space she enters.
